About

This is a blog for my words and works. I’ll post occasionally as I see fit.

I know you from TNC’s blog. I’m leaving town in 2 days for a week; headed back to the Capitol of the Confederacy (Richmond) to visit my die-hard Yankee mother, who’s living there in fairly happy/healthy retirement.

I offered to host/organize a Seattle-area meeting of all TNC folks, and you declined; would you be willing in the alternative to have coffee with just me?

My New Year’s resolution is to get out of my rut/isolation/rut/just-me-ness. You’d be doing me a favor 🙂

I’ll check back after the 1st. In the meantime, have a great holiday season. Unless you’re Jewish, of course, in which case it’s all over and so sorry 😉

What you said today about being angry that you don’t know stuff resonated with me. I know at least the broad outlines of most of what gets talked about there — white parents peripherally involved in the civil rights movement, lived through it, I do nothing interesting except read books — but I absolutely get what you mean/how you feel about that. If we get/teach the history wrong, it’s just such an insult to everyone who suffered and struggled to make things better. And if the rest of us are living in ignorance, we’re not really living.

I’m hunting up that email soon [I did see it]; derailed by various job crap but climbing back in the saddle soon(ish).

  3. Came to this from TNC’s Atlantic.
Just wanted to thank you for your articulate, earnest writing.
    Being human is difficult.
    So, thanks!
